Shadow Victorian Minister for Health Georgie Crozier has called for vital papers on the Albury Wodonga Health redevelopment to be released to the public.

Ms Crozier said the Border community was being denied access to the latest Master and Clinical Service Plans for the redevelopment at the Albury campus of Albury Wodonga Health.

The Border Medical Association fears bed numbers and theatres highlighted by an earlier Clinical Service Plan have been slashed to match the NSW and Victorian Governments budget.

Ms Crozier said the redevelopment must meet future needs.

“The fear is the first stage of the makeover will barely meet current needs let alone the projected growth in the health service’s catchment in the coming decades,” she said.

“There was a clinical service plan done in 2021 that most agree was on the money, but the latest iteration is said to have cut bed numbers, reduced the number of operating theatres and general points of care like dialysis chairs.

“Only with the release of these documents can we either confirm or put to rest the fears of health professionals and the Border community.”

Ms Crozier’s motion to the Victorian Parliament also highlighted other failures.

“That this house notes the Victorian Government’s failure to thoroughly investigate geotechnical faults before committing to a multimillion-dollar brownfield redevelopment on the Albury campus site,” she said.

“That the service planning and previously released 2021 Master Plan identified that the current Albury Hospital buildings are not-fit-for-purpose.

“The failure to address the wide-ranging concerns of the Border community over the cost and potential pitfalls of redeveloping the Albury campus as opposed to a greenfield build.”
