About benambra

They say “home is where your heart is”… And for me, “home” has always been Benambra.

Located in the northeast of Victoria, this rural electorate known as Benambra District forms the most picturesque 10,037 square kilometers in Victoria. And while tourists always want to return, Benambra residents are the only ones who can truly appreciate its value. Spectacular waterways like the Kiewa and Mitta Mitta rivers, along with Dartmouth Dam and Lake Hume pave the way to the story-like scenery of the Victorian Alps. Wrapped in history, the gold mining towns of Beechworth, Chiltern, Rutherglen, Yackandandah, and the Falls Creek ski resort attract Australian and international tourists every single season, making tourism an essential part of the district’s economy. The major centres within Benambra are formed by the townships of Baranduda, Barnawartha, Beechworth, Chiltern, Corryong, Eskdale, Kiewa, Mitta Mitta, Mount Beauty, Rutherglen, Tallangatta, Tangambalanga, Tawonga, Wahgunyah, Walwa, Wodonga, and Yackandandah. However, Benambra is more than that. It’s history. It is following family lineage and neighbours knowing and helping each other. Benambra’s community ties are some of the strongest in all Australia. They are what makes this extraordinary land more than just a place. They make it family, they make it home.
