Labor’s not up to the job of getting Victorians into a job

Latest payroll jobs data, the first release for 2021, shows that Victoria has recorded the largest decline in payroll jobs of any state or territory since the start of the pandemic.

Overall payroll jobs are down 7.7 per cent compared to mid-March 2020, compared to just 5.8 per cent in New South Wales.

Worse still is that our small and medium businesses – the engine room of our state’s economy – just aren’t able to keep people on their payrolls.

Victorian small and medium businesses are still suffering with payroll jobs in businesses employing fewer than 20 employees down 13.9 per cent and for businesses with between 20 and 199 employees down 11.8 per cent compared to mid-March. 

This compares to payroll jobs in businesses with over 200 employees, which have only gone down by 3.7 per cent compared to mid-March.

Whether it’s small, medium or large businesses, Victoria is far and away the back of the pack.

Only the Liberal Nationals have a plan to get Victorians back to work and back in business.

“This is just the latest in a series of employment data which shows Labor’s not up to the job of getting Victorians into a job.

“Our state needs to be working harder than any other to repair the jobs crisis caused by Andrews’ catastrophic second wave.

“Labor has no plan to rebuild small business and get Victorians back to work.”
