Industrial relations during COVID-19 crisis

Reports are emerging that some Victorian businesses are being threatened with legal action by union officials during the current COVID-19 pandemic, says Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations Nick Wakeling.

While there is significant goodwill being shown between industry and unions leaders, it appears not to be trickling down to some workplaces in Victoria.

We’ve already seen industrial action threaten SPC’s operations in Shepparton as the COVID-19 crisis began earlier this year.

Many Victorian employers are currently fighting to save their businesses.

Thousands of employees are without work due to the unprecedented nature of this pandemic.

At a time when businesses are grappling with reducing staff in a volatile environment, businesses don’t also need to face the prospect of industrial action at their workplace.

The Liberal Nationals are calling on the State Government to work with industry and union leaders to develop protocols to help prevent industrial disputation at this difficult time.
