Country train passengers are today bearing the burden of the Andrews Government’s ongoing dispute with Victoria’s public transport union.
All trains from Swan Hill, Bendigo and Echuca have been cancelled and passengers punted onto replacement buses in the first of 10 days of rolling stop work action across the entire V/Line network.
Regional passengers have every right to be frustrated with the ongoing chaos in the regional train network under Labor.
In October, eight of Victoria’s 11 regional rail lines failed to meet the 92 per cent punctuality target.
The north east line recorded an abysmal 30.1 per cent – plummeting to its lowest point in five years – while the Gippsland and Bairnsdale lines have failed to meet punctuality targets every single month in the same timeframe.
V/Line’s annual report shows Daniel Andrews slashed $149 million from V/Line’s annual budget this year, while customer satisfaction with the state’s regional train service is at a 10-year low.
Despite the problems, the Andrews Labor Government invested just four per cent of the capital funding for public transport in this year’s State Budget into regional Victoria.
Comment attributable to Shadow Minister for Regional Public Transport Steph Ryan
Regional passengers just want the trains to run on time, but instead we’re wearing the consequences of Daniel Andrews’ ugly pay dispute with the union.
Customer satisfaction with V/Line is at a 10-year low but instead of fixing the problems Labor has cut $149 million out of V/Line’s budget.
Fast, reliable public transport is one of the basic services that supports growing regional communities.
Regional rail has become a disaster under Daniel Andrews and his embattled Public Transport Minister Melissa Horne.
