The labour force numbers released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show the Andrews Labor Government has failed regional Victoria.
According to the figures, unemployment in the Hume Region jumped from 2.4 per cent in October 2018 to 4.0 per cent in October 2019, with 1,611 more people out of work.
Daniel Andrews and Labor like to spruik their cash splash in metropolitan Melbourne, but as the numbers clearly show, that money and jobs stop at the end of the tram tracks.
Outside of Melbourne, Labor’s incompetence and complete lack of care for regional Victoria are there for all to see. They slashed the innovation and jobs budget from $250 million down to $120 million. They’ve botched critical regional infrastructure projects like the Murray Basin Rail Project, leaving small businesses and farmers in the lurch. Labor’s mismanagement of money and projects is coming back to haunt them.
People in places like Hume need jobs to look after their families, be rewarded for their efforts, and contribute to society. The prosperous future all Victorians deserve is under threat as Daniel Andrews, and Labor leaves regional Victorians out to dry.
Comments attributable to Shadow Treasurer, Louise Staley:
“It is clear Daniel Andrews and Labor have abandoned people looking for work in Hume.”
“This month, we’ve seen the sustainable timber industry destroyed, trashing thousands of jobs. This is yet further confirmation that the arrogant Andrews Labor Government only care about jobs for people who live inside the tram tracks.”
“Regional Victoria needs a government that creates jobs so people can get on with living their lives safe in the knowledge of where their next paycheck is coming from, not one that sacrifices their living for inner-city votes.”
