January’s regional labour force figures released recently by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows the unemployment rate in the Hume region has risen to 4.0% from 2.5% in October last year. says Shadow Treasurer Louise Staley.
This increase in the unemployment rate reflects an additional 1,309 unemployed in the Hume region since October, bringing the total number of unemployed in the Hume region to 3,378.
That’s more families in the Hume region struggling to pay their bills with massive cost of living pressures under Daniel Andrews and Labor.
These latest unemployment figures are just further evidence that Daniel Andrews is the Premier for Melbourne, not of Victoria.
Regional Victoria is once again being left behind by this government that has no plans to grow or support jobs in regional Victoria.
Instead of trying to spin numbers, Treasurer, Tim Pallas should be helping unemployed Victorians in the Hume region find work.
In the Hume region, the youth unemployment rate has almost doubled, rising 5.5%, from 5.8% in January last year to 11.3%.
Ensuring young people are able to get a job is crucial step to help ensure future prosperity, and enabling them to achieve important milestones in life, such as home ownership.
It is clear that youth unemployment is a huge problem in the Hume region and Daniel Andrews either can’t fix it or doesn’t care to.
Daniel Andrews and Labor are too focused on metropolitan Melbourne. They don’t have a strategy to create genuine employment growth in regional Victoria.
