After slashing country roads funding three years ago, Daniel Andrews is now playing catch up, says Shadow Roads Minister David Hodgett.
In 2015, Daniel Andrews cut the $160 million Country Roads and Bridges program, condemning country roads to fall into dangerous disrepair.
On top of this, yesterday’s announcement by Daniel Andrews was promised back in 2014 as part of Labor’s Project 10,000. Daniel Andrews has utterly failed to deliver for regional Victorians in the last three years and simply cannot be trusted.
Mr Hodgett said country roads have been falling apart for three years because Daniel Andrews decided the cash would be better spent fixing roads around his metropolitan electorate of Mulgrave.
“It takes true arrogance to take money from country roads riddled with potholes and falling apart and then spending it in your own metropolitan backyard,” he said.
“Yesterday’s announcement will also short change regional Victorians by $60 million of country roads funding.
“You simply can’t trust Daniel Andrews who presided over a party who rorted nearly $400,000 of taxpayers’ money.
“Last week, the Liberal Nationals announced we’d fully restore the $160 million Country Roads and Bridges Program that was axed by Daniel Andrews.
“Regional Victorians deserve better than they get under Labor.
“We need to invest in regional Victoria so we can decentralise our population and economy.
“That is why a Matthew Guy led government has announced nearly $1 billion in regional transport infrastructure upgrades in the last few months.
“A Liberal Nationals government will not dither, delay and slash roads funding like Daniel Andrews.”
Only the Liberal Nationals will get regional Victoria moving.
