Victorians continue to pay too much for power because of the botched roll out of smart meters by Labor, says Shadow Energy Minister David Southwick.
Under Daniel Andrews Victorians are paying too much for their power.
Reports yesterday in The Australian confirm what the Liberal Nationals Coalition said two years ago – cost reflective pricing with smart meters is “critical to managing the electricity grid”.
Under Daniel Andrews, Victorian households have spent over $2 billion on the bungled smart meter rollout, but they’re not being used to help our energy crisis.
Cost reflective pricing with smart meters would lower demand in peak periods, assisting in fixing the mess Labor created when they closed Hazelwood – however the technology remains unused.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, David Southwick MP:
“Daniel Andrews has created an energy crisis and Victorians now suffer with soaring energy prices and a supply issue that everybody else except him is trying to fix.
“It’s ironic that this report calls for the rollout of smart meters with cost reflective pricing to deal with supply issues, when we have Daniel Andrews adding to the burden by closing Hazelwood.
“The simple fact is, the Labor Government has made a complete mess of energy from all directions.”
