Yesterday the Legislative Council Legal and Social Issues Committee has referred to the Ombudsman allegations of witness coercion involving senior Andrews Government bureaucrats, says Shadow Minister for Families and Children Georgie Crozier.
The Committee handed down its interim report outlining the need for the referral as well as problems caused receiving information from the Andrews Labor Government.
Daniel Andrews and his Government have serious questions to answer about the conduct of the public service and any ministerial involvement in this matter.
The Committee is inquiring into the youth justice crisis under Daniel Andrews.
As part of this inquiry, the Committee was told of allegations of witness coercion.
The allegations involve Mr Brendan Murray, former Principal of Parkville College, and his testimony to the Supreme Court about the provision of education services at Grevillea Unit of Barwon Prison following the mass riots and destruction of Parkville Youth Justice Centre.
Mr Murray claimed he was pressured by senior Andrews Government bureaucrats about “what the Department would like me to say”.
