In Question Time last Thursday, the Member for Narre Warren North, who lives in Fitzroy North was hypothesising on what he would do if he was a Member of Parliament in the north-east suburbs, says Shadow Minister for Government Scrutiny Tim Smith.
You couldn’t make this stuff up. The only time Luke Donnellan drives through the north east suburbs is on his way to the Yarra Valley.
Next he claims the state Liberal Nationals and the Federal Government are colluding to prevent the sale of Simpson Barracks – a defence facility which among other functions plays a significant role in Signals operations.
The fact is, Daniel Andrews and Luke Donnellan have not done their homework and spoken to the Federal Government about acquiring Simpson Barracks.
Given the State Government cannot (obviously) compulsorily acquire land from the Australian Army, you have to wonder why Daniel Andrews and Luke Donnellan didn’t have these conversations before they announced their preferred North East Link route.
You also have to wonder if Daniel Andrews hasn’t had this critically important conversation with the Federal Government because he’s trying to sabotage his own announcement. How else do you explain such basic oversight?
Luke Donnellan also falsely claims the state Liberal Nationals don’t support a North East Link.
The Liberal Nationals believe that building the North East Link before the East West Link, will result in up to an extra 130,000 motor vehicles pouring into the already gridlocked Eastern Freeway every day.
Both links are important for Melbourne’s liveability, but you have to build the East West Link before the North East Link.
Luke Donnellan should stick to the things he knows best – Fitzroy North cafes and wine bars.
