ENERGY Minister Lily D’Ambrosio has today said the impact of the Victorian Renewable Energy Target (VRET) on households would be “no more than 50 cents per week over the life of the scheme”.
Today, the Minister also claims the VRET will save “$30 a year for households”.
The Grattan Institute has stated “Unilateral action by any state or territory will cut across these policies and may simply increase their cost without any net environmental benefit.”
On the Neil Mitchell program on 3 November 2016, Daniel Andrews told all Victorians that the closure of Hazelwood would see power prices rise by “4 per cent or 85 cents a week”.
However, the average Victorian household is paying a $300 increase in their annual energy bills this year according to the St Vincent De Paul Society, while some businesses are facing power price rises of 250 to 350 per cent.

Daniel Andrews’ renewable energy target is political vanity at the expense of consumers.
The reality is that power bills will rise as a result of a state based renewable energy target – no one believes government spin that they won’t.
It’s unfair small businesses and those on low incomes carry much of the burden for Daniel Andrews’ state renewable energy target.
Attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, David Southwick:
Daniel Andrews’ reckless target will shutdown coal baseload power generators and push up power prices even further for households and businesses, just like South Australia.
Victorians want to keep the lights on and heat their home, not pay more for an ideological Labor target on their power bills.
While Victorian businesses have been hit with power price increases of 250 to 350 per cent and forced to cut jobs, D’Ambrosio’s advice to them is “vote Labor”.
The Liberal Nationals support a responsible transition to cleaner energy generation through a national target for the National Energy Market
A Liberal Nationals Government will abolish the Victorian Renewable Energy Target to stop power prices from soaring.
