A year after opening, the 13th floor of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) stands empty and today the Labor Government has announced the 8th floor cancer ward of the VCCC at Melbourne Health has also been scrapped, says Shadow Minister for Health Mary Woolridge.
Daniel Andrews’ outrageous decisions to slash 42 Peter Mac Private and now 32 Melbourne Health cancer beds from the VCCC has cost Victorians $100 million so far and will mean that as many as 15,000 fewer cancer patients will be treated at the VCCC each year.
Daniel Andrews and Jill Hennessy committed that the 8th floor of the Royal Melbourne would be dedicated to treating cancer patients, but have now admitted it will instead be used for a non-cancer related disease.
Stoke patients need dedicated and expanded facilities, but not at the expense of cancer patients and not as part of Victoria’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
Daniel Andrews has abandoned his commitment to Victorian cancer patients and their families.
