THIS week’s ABS figures show that Victoria is Australia’s fastest growing state with 84.7% of growth occurring in the Greater Melbourne Area, says the Coalition’s Population Taskforce Chair Tim Smith.
Census figures show that since 2011, Victoria’s population has grown by 572,582 (10.7%) people with an increase of 485,229 in the Greater Melbourne Area.
This is why the Liberal Nationals established the Population Policy Taskforce to plan to decentralise Melbourne’s population and develop job opportunities, infrastructure and services in regional cities.
Our Population Policy Taskforce is the first holistic approach to planning for Victoria’s burgeoning population growth seen for decades.
Quotes attributable to Population Taskforce Chair Tim Smith MP:
We need to ease the squeeze on Melbourne’s huge population growth.
Daniel Andrews has no plan, no vision and no interest in decentralisation. Under Labor, we will continue to see a Melbourne that expands forever and regional Victoria being ignored.
The Liberal Nationals have a positive plan to manage population growth by decentralising our State, by taking the pressure off Melbourne and carefully planning for growth in regional Victoria.
