Shadow Minister for Training and Skills, Steph Ryan
Gayle Tierney has placed the future of 1600 students in jeopardy if comments she made in Parliament undermine the potential sale of Sage Institute.
Ms Tierney claimed in Parliament yesterday that the registered training organisation had closed its doors and that the department was working to inform its students.
Ms Tierney told State Parliament:
The decision of Sage Institute to close was taken without prior notice to the department. The department has been advised that the institute intends to cease all training activity – I think as of yesterday – and that the registered training organisation (RTO) may no longer be able to carry on with its business generally.
It has been confirmed today that Sage Institute has not announced plans to close and is in fact in discussions with a potential buyer.
Gayle Tierney is either completely distracted dealing with Labor’s law and order crisis or she deliberately misled the Parliament.
Before Parliament rises tonight, the Minister should apologise to the 1600 students studying at Sage who she led to believe have unknowingly had their future at the institute taken away.
Daniel Andrews has lost control of his Cabinet when three Ministers are called out for misleading Parliament in just two days.
