Shadow Minister for Families and Children, Georgie Crozier
The Productivity Commission has today confirmed that Victoria’s youth justice system has spiralled out of the Andrews Government’s control.
The Report on Government Services, released today examines the July 2015 to June 2016 period and found that:
• Assaults in Victoria’s youth justice system have increased 155% in only 1 year
• Of the 8 serious assaults that occurred across the nation, 6 of them happened in Victoria.
• 51 of the 125 reported assaults were in Victoria, 10 times the number of assaults than the Northern Territory which is currently subject to a Royal Commission Inquiry.
These figures do not include the repeated rioting between September and November 2016 that destroyed the Parkville Youth Justice Centre.
Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Families and Children Georgie Crozier
“Daniel Andrews says Minister Jenny Mikakos is doing a “great job”, if this is what he calls a great job it is no wonder Victoria has a law and order crisis.”
“This is yet more proof that Minister Jenny Mikakos has let youth justice spiral beyond her control and must be sacked before anybody else gets hurt.
“Under Jenny Mikakos, Victoria’s youth justice system has become 10 times worse than the Northern Territory, the system she says is completely broken.”
