Shadow Minister for Environment, Brad Battin
Thousands of Victorians have signed a petition to save Anglesea Beachfront Carvan Park (saveangleseacaravanpark.org.au) after Daniel Andrews made the decision to shut it down.
The Andrews Labor Government ran a dodgy tender process where the Government itself bid and awarded itself the winner. The community is concerned that this process has significant probity issues and a valuable asset, used by thousands of families for affordable holidays, will be lost.
Each year thousands of families use the facilities at this stunning and affordable vacation spot. Now the Government has taken over, the current family business has been ordered to vacate and remove hundreds of thousands of dollars of assets including a new jumping pillows and cabins.
The Government has announced it will investigate its own dodgy tender process itself but the Liberal Nationals Coalition believes an independent assessment should be done by the Ombudsman. The Coalition will write to the Ombudsman requesting an independent investigation.
Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Environment Brad Battin MP:
Daniel Andrews today admitted he stuffed up the process by allowing the dodgy deal to shut down the Anglesea Beach Front Caravan Park.
An investigation by Daniel Andrews into his own dodgy decision just sounds even dodgier. If the Premier has admitted something smells fishy then he should join the Liberal Nationals in requesting the Ombudsman lead an independent investigation.
Today is a win for the community of Anglesea and those who tendered in good faith, but only if Daniel Andrews is transparent and honest by setting aside the previous process and allowing a process that is fair.
