Shadow Minister for Public Transport, David Hodgett
Today’s Budget Update revealed that the cost of myki has sky-rocketed another $201.5 million under the Andrews Government.
That is $201.5 million that now can’t be spent on new trains, improved railway stations or improving community safety and ambulance services in Victoria.
After first awarding a sweetheart contract renewal to myki’s existing operator, Daniel Andrews and Jacinta Allan have now sunk another $201.5 million of taxpayer money into their myki mess.
Victorians will be right to wonder if they will ever stop paying for Labor’s billion-dollar bungle, myki.
In 2017 myki fares will be hiked by more than five per cent, adding even more pressure to the cost of living in Victoria.
Rather than making public transport a more attractive option, under Daniel Andrews, a myki fare is now more expensive than driving the car for many Victorians.
Daniel Andrews loves to say that he is putting people first, but the numbers don’t lie and today they’ve proven the exact opposite.
