Shadow Minister for Community Safety, Edward O’Donohue
Time and time again Daniel Andrews has failed to put community safety first.
Over just the past year, crime rose more than 13% on Daniel Andrews’ watch and his response was to cut frontline police and close police stations.
In February 2016, the Liberal Nationals introduced the No Body, No Parole Bill. In August 2016 it passed Parliament’s Upper House with support from six political parties, only to be voted down by the Andrews Government.
At the time, the then Corrections Minister, Steve Herbert, said there was no rush for No Body, No Parole laws, now we are told it is urgent.
The Andrews Government should have legislated to keep Craig Minogue behind bars months ago. After months of inaction by Daniel Andrews, the Liberal Nationals introduced a bill to keep Minogue in prison for the rest of his life.
Only today, at a minute to midnight has Daniel Andrews panicked and decided to introduce a bill to Parliament.
Car-jackings, home invasions, youth justice centre riots, have all become the norm in Victoria under Daniel Andrews. This isn’t acceptable and Victorians deserve a government that puts community safety first, not politics.
The law and order announcements this week are a panicked response from a panicked Daniel Andrews who is desperately trying to catch-up on 2 wasted years.
How can Victorians trust Daniel Andrews to keep them safe after he has sat on his hands for 2 years?
