Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy
The Liberal Nationals believe the police murderer and Russell Street bomber, Craig Minogue, should remain in jail.
On Easter Thursday 27 March 1986, Minogue committed an act that would today be considered terrorism by bombing the Russell Street Police Headquarters, killing a police officer and injuring 21 others. While in jail Minogue again committed murder when he brutally killed another inmate.
Unlike Daniel Andrews, a Liberal Nationals Government led by Matthew Guy would not release Craig Minogue from jail.
The legislation the Liberal Nationals will introduce would state that Minogue should not be considered for parole unless he is in imminent danger of death, or so incapacitated that he no longer has the physical ability to do harm to anyone. On top of that, the Adult Parole Board would still have to agree to grant parole.
This legislation should be a sign to Victorians that Matthew Guy and a Liberal Nationals Government would put community safety and the rights of victims before that of criminals.
