Shadow Minister for Planning, David Davis
The Andrews Government are fresh out of excuses not to build a South Yarra interchange station along the Melbourne Metro Rail project following the windfall $9.7 billion from the lease of the Port of Melbourne.
Daniel Andrews has refused to build a South Yarra station claiming cost constraints, but given the additional funds for the Port of Melbourne lease will be used to boost Victoria’s infrastructure budget, this excuse is simply not good enough.
Melbourne Metro has to be built and managed properly to benefit future generations. Victorians all agree that when it comes to infrastructure, do it once and do it right.
Building a South Yarra station is critical if we are going to properly plan for Melbourne’s long-term future and liveability.
Melbourne is increasing in size by around 90,000 people every year so it is critical we build more infrastructure, but we have to do it right and build it for the long term.
Daniel Andrews must immediately reconsider his decision to excise a South Yarra interchange station from Melbourne Metro effectively disconnecting the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines from South Yarra.
