Shadow Minister for Families and Children, Georgie Crozier
Minister Jenny Mikakos continues to avoid answering questions about the three successive nights of rampage at youth detention centres that has forced staff to barricade themselves in rooms to avoid violence.
These youth on remand clearly have no respect or fear of the law and Victorians are right to be concerned about what happens when they are released.
Youth gangs in these centres are merely honing their criminal skills and developing a stronger disrespect for the law.
They are displaying no signs of rehabilitation nor do they fear any consequences for their actions.
At a time when Victorians are caught in a violent crime wave, prisons should be sending a clear message to convicted criminals that there is no excuse for this sort of behaviour.
Jenny Mikakos could not provide answers yesterday and we will be pursuing her to tell Victorians what she and Daniel Andrews are doing to fix this chaotic mess.
It’s time Daniel Andrews laid down the law in these prison centres so that these young kids come out rehabilitated instead of emboldened hardened criminals back on our streets.
