Shadow Minister for Planning, David Davis
The Herald Sun’s publication of results from the heretofore secret VicRoads level crossing community survey New Comparison Report – 20 April 2015, obtained under Freedom of Information, blows Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan’s assertions that the community supports Skyrail clean out of the water.
Just 13% of those surveyed supported a rail over road solution to level crossings removals, including in Daniel Andrews own patch of Heatherton Road Noble Park, Corrigan Road Noble Park and Chandler Road Noble Park.
As today’s Herald Sun editorialised: “VicRoads research showed that at least 1600 respondents living near proposed projects across Melbourne preferred going under rather than going over level crossings – by far the most popular response”.
The Andrews Labor Government knew fully nine months before they announced their flawed and ill thought through Caulfield to Dandenong Skyrail proposal that the overwhelming majority of the community did not, and would not, support it. In a typically arrogant and dictatorial fashion, Daniel Andrews proceeded regardless.
Quotes attributable to the Shadow Minister for Planning, David Davis MP:
No-one voted for Skyrail and now we know just 13% support it. Daniel Andrews, you have no mandate to permanently scar Melbourne’s suburbs with ugly, intrusive and noisy 1950s style viaducts.
Daniel Andrews is treating his own community as second class citizens.
Do the job properly with rail under road grade separations and, as the VicRoads survey shows, you will have the support of a clear majority – including of your own constituents.
