Shadow Minister for Police, Edward O’Donohue
Today’s reports that some of Victoria’s most dangerous convicted criminals are refusing to work and demanding more pay shows how farcical things have become under Daniel Andrews.
Daniel Andrews failed to prevent the worst prison riot in Victoria’s history, prisoners caught growing marijuana in the prison yard, increased deaths in custody, prison escapes, and now prisoners refusing to work because they want more taxpayer money.
It is unacceptable that convicted criminals feel emboldened to strike.
The community expects prisoners to be focused on rehabilitation and paying their debt to the community, not to be taking strike action over pay rates in prison.
Under Daniel Andrews, frontline police numbers are down, police stations have closed and our prisons appear to be run by the prisoners. It’s no wonder crime rates are out of control in Victoria.
