Shadow Minister for Community Safety, Edward O’Donohue
Earlier this year the Liberal Nationals announced a new policy to send a strong message on car-jacking which Daniel Andrews has now copied.
Victoria is stuck in a crime epidemic.
Under Daniel Andrews total crime is up over 12%, the largest single annual increase in years. As well, car-jackings have increased by a staggering 80% while home invasions and gang violence have spiralled out of control. Despite this, frontline police numbers have been cut, police stations have either been closed or had their opening hours cut and several laws against serious crime and violence have been weakened.
That’s why earlier this year the Liberal Nationals announced that if elected we will increase frontline police numbers and introduce new offences of car-jacking and aggravated car-jacking with maximum jail terms of 15 and 25 years respectively, as well as statutory minimum sentences to ensure that strong sentences are handed down by the courts.
The Liberal Nationals have introduced this legislation to Parliament today.
Daniel Andrews’ decision to copy Liberal Nationals policy confirms that when it comes to law and order the Labor Government is out of ideas.
