Shadow Minister for Local Government, David Davis
The Andrews Labor Government’s panicked announcement to change their botched council legislation still leaves developments approved by affected councils in legal and financial limbo.
The unknown legal status of projects that have been approved by affected councils could put hundreds of millions of dollars of investment and jobs at risk.
This unprecedented debacle was created by Daniel Andrews’ negligent implementation of new councillor code of conduct provisions – provisions that would otherwise have seen 13 Victorian councils and 107 councillors farcically disqualified from 1 September
If Daniel Andrews can’t get the basics right, Victorians are right to question how his government will deliver on more complex projects like Metro Rail.
True to form, Daniel Andrews is blaming everyone but himself for this botched exercise. This is a premier who has taken passing the buck to an Olympic level.
It is imperative that Daniel Andrews’ legislative “fix” ensures the decisions of all of Victoria’s councils cannot be challenged as a result of this absurd situation, a direct result of his own poorly implemented legislation, or Victorians risk more turmoil and uncertainty.
