Shadow Minister for Police, Edward O’Donohue
Technology is no substitute for more police patrolling our streets, keeping our community safe.
While the Liberal Nationals Coalition welcomes the Government’s announcement today of mobile technology to frontline police, it should not have taken so long for Daniel Andrews to implement.
It is unacceptable that the rollout of mobile devices – 10 year old technology – will take another four years under Daniel Andrews when our police desperately need it now.
Daniel Andrews needs to provide Victoria Police with the resources to fast-track this project now so that the benefits to frontline policing come sooner rather than later.
Under Daniel Andrews total crime is up over 12% and car jackings have increased by a staggering 80% while home invasions and gang violence have spiralled out of control.
Despite this, under Daniel Andrews police stations are closing and frontline police numbers have been cut.
Victorians have a right to feel safe in their homes and on our streets.
