Shadow Minister for Public Transport, David Hodgett
Revelations that Melbourne’s Town Hall building, the City Baths and the Princes Bridge are all at risk of being left in structurally unsound condition by the Metro Rail tunnel is more evidence that Daniel Andrews hasn’t properly thought this project through.
Metro Rail is an $11 billion major infrastructure project that will serve Melbourne into the next century. We simply can’t afford to get it wrong.
Already, Daniel Andrews has stuffed up the design because he is by-passing the South Yarra rail station, which is the busiest station outside the CBD.
Now we learn that landmarks like Town Hall, the City Baths, Princes Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral might all be permanently affected because of the design.
Daniel Andrews and Jacinta Allan must explain to Victorians how they are going to address these concerns.
Daniel Andrews sat around the cabinet table when they approved the disastrous Myki and desal plant projects. Daniel Andrews has a very poor track record when it comes to competently delivering major projects.
A new rail alignment through Melbourne CBD will be here forever, we must get it right.
