Shadow Minister for Roads, Ryan Smith
In a question to Parliament yesterday, Labor MP Harriet Shing slammed the state of Victoria’s country roads under Daniel Andrews, stating:
“I refer to the parlous state of roads in the Eastern Victoria Region and in Gippsland, which have in and of themselves contributed more than their fair share of fatalities, serious injuries and near misses in the area.”
The Opposition agrees with Ms Shing that on Luke Donnellan’s watch, regional roads are in a parlous state.
Regional communities are continuing to pay the price for Labor’s axing of the Country Roads and Bridges program in 2015.
In this year’s budget there was no sign of the promised money for regional Victoria, whilst Road Operations and Network Improvements funding was cut 3.4%.
Regional pavement resurfacing has also been cut 14% compared to the former Coalition Government, as Gippsland’s roads and footpaths continue to deteriorate.
Country roads are falling apart under Labor, and now even their own MPs are noticing.
Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Roads, Ryan Smith:
Even Daniel Andrews’ own MPs are now complaining about his cuts to regional roads funding.
Harriet Shing’s comments are further evidence that even Labor members are frustrated with Daniel Andrews’ leadership.
