Shadow Minister for Police, Edward O’Donohue
Revelations that for the first time in memory, the Falls Creek and Mt Hotham Police stations will be without dedicated police this winter, again highlights Daniel Andrews failure to provide police with the resources they urgently need in the face of rising crime and violence.
Daniel Andrews has allowed police stations to close and the number of front line police at stations to be cut.
Over Summer and Easter many of Victoria’s busy holiday, such as Torquay and Lakes Entrance, saw reduced station opening hours and police stretched to cope.
The Alpine Region of Victoria sees tens of thousands of people visit during the ski season.
Police play a critical role in keeping these resorts safe and have responsibility for search and rescue where a quick response can be the difference between life and death.
With off mountain police response of over an hour, the ability for police to respond to urgent incidents will be compromised, creating a potential risk to community safety.
Daniel Andrews must commit to more police resources so that his cuts to front line police at stations can be reversed.
