Shadow Minister for Public Transport, David Hodgett
Today’s court decision shows yet again Daniel Andrews’ inability to make a decision on Uber is costing Victorians.
The longer Daniel Andrews waits to make a decision on Uber, the more damage this is doing to Victoria’s economy.
Everyone in the transport industry wants some certainty and stability to plan for the future. Consumers also deserve the best transport services at the most competitive price and the ride sharing economy is one of the many transport options that helps make that possible.
Today’s court decision also makes it clear that the Andrews Labor Government has wasted hundreds of thousands of taxpayers’ money fighting an Uber driver through the court system only to have to now front up the costs.
Legislating for Uber is about creating a clear system in which we can embrace emerging technologies, creating a better more competitive service for transport users and providing certainty to the transport industry so they can plan for the future with confidence.
This is not about taxis vs Uber but rather what ways we can get our city moving in the most efficient way.
Daniel Andrews can’t just bury his head in the sand and hope this problem will fix itself; he needs to take action urgently.
