Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, David Southwick
Victorians will be rightly worried to learn today that they could soon be paying two new carbon taxes on all of their electricity bills.
Before the election, Daniel Andrews promised there would be no new taxes under his government. In less than 18 months he has already broken this promise and imposed two new taxes.
Despite Daniel Andrews’ Budget showing that state taxes have jumped by more than 20 per cent in just two years, he has decided to hit Victorians by tripling the tax on the coal that generates 90 per cent of Victoria’s electricity.
Now we learn that if Bill Shorten wins the Federal Election he too will introduce a new carbon tax. Between Daniel Andrews and Bill Shorten, Victorians could be slugged with big hikes in their electricity bills.
