This morning’s 6.35am train service from Albury was cancelled and replaced by a bus service.
The previous night’s evening train out of Southern Cross Station was also cancelled because of a “train fault”.
There are three sets of trains available to V/Line on the North East corridor and at any one time at least one of those is undergoing routine maintenance while the other two sets shuttle between the Border and Melbourne.
Comments from Member for Benambra Bill Tilley:
“Last night’s and this morning’s cancellation of services is yet another blow for our North East rail corridor.
“There is a growing belief that we have to sit in the queue behind the maintenance works on the VLocity trains that service Ballarat and Bendigo.
“In a perfect world, and at the very least, we would see this government cough up for a new train set for our rail line in next week’s budget.
“But that is just the start – as I’ve said in the past and continue to lobby the government – we need a purpose-built, long-haul V/Line train service for the North East, multiple sets that will avoid the ongoing issues that continue to plague the line.
“The last thing we need is for this service to be replaced by buses for any extended period of time.”
