Shadow Minister for Health, Mary Wooldridge
The Victorian Auditor General has released two reports today with a clear message: significant and ongoing failures have been identified in Victoria’s health system and Daniel Andrews needs to do more to address them.
The report into Bullying and Harassment in the Health Sector shows that there is a persistent culture of underreporting, in a system that doesn’t treat bullying and harassment seriously.
The report into Patient Safety in Victorian Public Hospitals found that systematic failures of DHHS include unreliable data collection and an inability to properly evaluate this data to identify trends and potential threats to patient safety.
Both reports show that progress was made by the former Liberal National Coalition Government.
Given the clear priorities identified by these reports, Daniel Andrews and Jill Hennessy must commit to urgently addressing incidents of poor patient safety and bullying and harassment in the health sector.
Leadership and strong policy are needed from Jill Hennessy and Daniel Andrews to ensure the health and wellbeing of our patients and health workforce.
