Shadow Minister for Education, Nick Wakeling
The Liberal Nationals Coalition support anti-bullying programs which teach our children to respect everyone. Schools have a responsibility to ensure an inclusive learning environment for everyone and that it is free from bullying.
We support the Federal Government’s independent expert review into the program and Minister Birmingham’s recommendation that the curriculum requires change to achieve its intended outcomes.
The recommendations also reaffirm that parents are appropriately empowered and engaged. A ‘one size fits all’ approach in education doesn’t work, schools and parents need to have input into what their kids are learning.
Daniel Andrews should accept these recommendations and make the necessary changes including reversing his direction compelling all government schools to adopt this program, irrespective of the views of parents.
The Liberal Nationals Coalition believes that every child should feel safe and confident in homes, schools and in the public. Learning to respect everyone regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, appearance and background, is one of the most important lessons our children should learn, and the responsibility to teach this rests with our families, community and teachers.
