Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy
Daniel Andrews has fired the first shot in the federal election campaign in Victoria.
Today’s announcement was about politicising an important new rail link and making it an issue for Daniel Andrews and Bill Shorten to campaign on during the federal election.
Instead of a mature discussion with the Prime Minister, Daniel Andrews has thrown a brick through Malcolm Turnbull’s window with a note attached demanding $4.5 billion.
This is not how serious leaders do business. Real leaders work constructively behind the scenes building their case and engaging the electorate. Daniel Andrews’ preferred approach is to run the state through press releases and media stunts.
This is not the first time Daniel Andrews has politicised infrastructure and put the political interests of the Labor Party ahead of the infrastructure needs of Victorians.
I have had a number of constructive conversations with Prime Minister Turnbull about Victoria’s infrastructure needs as well as meetings with relevant Federal Ministers. These private conversations will continue because the Coalition is committed to getting a good deal for Victoria instead of scoring cheap political points.
