Shadow Treasurer, Michael O’Brien
Before the election Daniel Andrews promised Victorians there would be no compensation payable by tearing up the East West Link contract.
The Auditor-General now estimates the total cost of Daniel Andrews’ decision to tear up the East West Link contract is $1.1 billion.
Does anyone believe that if Daniel Andrews went to the last election promising to tear up the East West Link contract at a cost of $1.1 billion, that he would have won the election?
If Daniel Andrews told Victorians before the election that he would tear up the East West Link contract at a cost of $1.1 billion, he would not be Premier today.
Victorians were lied to by Daniel Andrews.
The cost of Daniel Andrews’ $1.1 billion lie could have built a brand new Royal Children’s Hospital or 91 brand new primary schools or around 80 brand new 24-hour police stations.
Having wasted $1.1 billion to not build a road, Daniel Andrews is now asking the Turnbull Government to give him another $1 billion to build the Western Distributor – a project Labor did not take to the election – and which remains unfunded.
Before the election on the Neil Mitchell program, Daniel Andrews said: “There’ll be no compensation paid, because these arrangements are not valid, they’re not worth the paper they are written on.”
Daniel Andrews lied.
