Shadow Minister for Education, Nick Wakeling
Funding for the School Focused Youth Service is due to run out at the end of the year.
The program provides support for at-risk young people to help them to stay engaged in the education system. The point is that a better education will help them to a better life.
The Coalition Government provided funding for the SFYS program until the end of 2015. There’s still no word from Daniel Andrews on whether he’ll renew the funding.
Program providers such as the Boroondara, Manningham, Maroondah, Monash, Whitehorse and Yarra Ranges councils say they hold “grave concerns” if Labor refuses to continue the program.
Comments from Shadow Education Minister Nick Wakeling
With the end of the school year looming it’s time that Daniel Andrews announced plans to renew funding for the School Focused Youth Service beyond 2015.
We’ve seen nothing but delay and indecision from Daniel Andrews on a vital program that helps at-risk students to remain engaged in the school system.
Dozens of community groups and students who need the help the most are being left in limbo while Daniel Andrews drags his feet on making a decision.
