Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin
Background information
Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria which represents volunteer CFA firefighters has launched a campaign to encourage Victorian MPs to back them on securing proper cover in cancer cases.
They have asked MPs to sign a pledge that:
I will support CFA volunteers with cancer; and
I will vote for non-discriminatory Presumptive Legislation for all Victorian Firefighters.
Member for Gembrook Brad Battin and Member for Evelyn Christine Fyffe were the first MPs to sign the pledge today.
They called on Daniel Andrews to deliver legislation that does not discriminate against the men and women in our volunteer brigades who protect our communities.
All Members of the Victorian Parliament are being encouraged to sign this pledge to support our volunteer firefighters.
Quotes attributable to Brad Battin MP, Shadow Minister for Emergency Services
I am proud to be the first MP to sign this pledge to show my support to all our volunteers and ensure they are offered equal protection for protecting Victoria.
I am not going to allow Daniel Andrews to introduce an unfair system that favours some firefighters over others.
Firefighters protect all Victorians every day, whether volunteer or paid. They all deserve the right to equal protection, and I encourage all Members of the Victorian Parliament to sign the pledge.
