Shadow Minister for Training, Skills and Apprenticeships, Steph Ryan
The 2015 Half Yearly Training Market Report, silently released online by the government, reveals TAFEs are receiving less funding under Daniel Andrews.
The number of government subsidised enrolments declined by 14 per cent in 2015 compared to the same six-month period in 2014.
All types of training providers experienced a decline, with TAFEs showing the largest decline of 18 per cent and private training providers showing a decline of 15 per cent.
The report shows Daniel Andrews’ promise to “rescue” TAFEs was a sham.
Comments from Shadow Minister for Training, Skills and Apprenticeships Steph Ryan:
“Labor has tried to bury these figures because they reveal yet another broken promise.
“Daniel Andrews promised Victorians he would grow enrolments and provide an extra $1.2 billion to TAFE, but since he came to office, government-subsidised enrolments have plummeted.
“Under Labor TAFEs are receiving less funding for training, not more.
“At a time when youth unemployment is rising and we are losing jobs, the last thing Victorians need are Daniel Andrews’ cuts to government-subsidised training.
