Shadow Minister for Roads, Ryan Smith
It was revealed in state parliament today that 10 of the 48 bridges earmarked for upgrades under the program are located within 4km of Premier Daniel Andrews’ own Melbourne electorate.
Daniel Andrews said on the 19 February 2015:
“This $35.8 million in funding will be fast-tracked to strengthen 48 bridges in regional Victoria.” (Source: media release)
The electorate of Mulgrave is just 20km from the Melbourne GPO. For Labor to claim this as regional funding is both wrong and telling.
This is yet more evidence that Daniel Andrews runs a Melbourne-centric government that doesn’t care about important infrastructure in regional areas.
Daniel Andrews scrapped the former Coalition Government’s Country Roads and Bridges Program where each country council received $1 million a year to spend on maintenance for country roads and bridges.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Roads Ryan Smith:
Daniel Andrews’ Stronger Country Bridges Program has been exposed as a complete farce.
Daniel Andrews seems content to raid the Stronger Country Bridges Program to benefit his own suburban electorate while ignoring country Victorian electorates.
As with the East West Link, Daniel Andrews like to play politics with important infrastructure decisions.
