Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy
Background information:
A Coalition Government will introduce extra rail services on the Warrnambool line.
Residents in the South West region will benefit from an additional return train six days a week from Sunday to Friday.
After putting in place a new passing loop at Warncoort and upgrading track conditions, the ability now exists for another daily service.
Despite promising billions for rail investment in central Melbourne, the Andrews Labor Government has refused to commit to an additional daily service for the Warrnambool line.
The commitment for extra services was announced today in Warrnambool by Coalition Leader Matthew Guy and Shadow Public Transport Minister David Hodgett with the Liberal and National candidates for the South West Coast and Polwarth by-elections.
Comments attributable to Coalition Leader Matthew Guy:
Labor is spending billions of dollars to upgrade rail in Melbourne and not a cent on the Warrnambool line.
Daniel Andrews’ actions show that he’s all talk and no action when it comes to looking after regional Victoria.
If Labor won’t introduce a fourth daily rail service on the Warrnambool line then a Liberal-National government will.
Comments attributable to Shadow Public Transport Minister David Hodgett:
Upgrading rail infrastructure is vital for the South West and for Labor to ignore this issue is a disgrace.
Only the Liberal and National parties have the ability to fight for and deliver another rail service for the South West if Labor keeps on refusing to do so.
