Shadow Minister for Tourism, Heidi Victoria
The Victoria Tourism Industry Council said it was disappointed at the decision of the Andrews government to scrap the $100 million tourism investment for Point Nepean.
In a statement, VTIC Chief Executive Dianne Smith said:
“The State Government has turned its back on this Point Nepean development, which has the potential to diminish private sector confidence in investing in Victorian tourism projects.
“Our industry saw this as a litmus test for future developments and there is now concern regarding investment in innovative, job creating new tourism projects in Victoria.”
Comments from the Shadow Minister for Tourism, Heidi Victoria:
The comments by the head of the state’s peak tourism body make a mockery of the Andrews Government’s claim that it wants to grow tourism “even further”.
We have a situation now where the tourism sector is warning that the actions of the Labor government could scare off new tourism investment and jobs.
Daniel Andrews is a Premier working against tourism. He scrapped a $100 million tourism investment. He’s also scrapped the East West Link and the Airport Rail Link that would have helped tourists to get in and out of a growing airport and busy city.
With a Labor government that is scrapping tourism projects and infrastructure for tourists, it’s no wonder Victoria’s peak tourism body is sounding the alarm bells about future tourism opportunities and jobs for our state.
