Shadow Minister for Local Government, David Davis
The Consumer Price Index is a measure published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics of how much the price of a basket of selected goods and services has risen.
The Melbourne CPI for the last financial year (to 30 June 2015) was 1.1%.
Local Government Minister Natalie Hutchins has today announced council rates increases for 2016-17 will be capped at 2.5%. This is more than twice the rate of the CPI.
Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Local Government, David Davis MP:
Before the election, Daniel Andrews promised he would cap rates at the CPI, he has broken that promise.
Daniel Andrews’ dodgy forecasts mean Victorian ratepayers will pay more than he promised.
Ratepayers have every right to feel deceived when Daniel Andrews promised one thing in opposition and is now saying another in government.
