Shadow Minister for Public Transport, David Hodgett

Daniel Andrews needs to stop ignoring Uber and hoping it will just go away.

The taxi industry, the business community and most important of all Victorian transport users are frustrated by Daniel Andrews’ dithering on this issue.

Daniel Andrews has now had more than a year to provide certainty and stability to the tens of thousands of Victorians who work in the taxi and ride sharing industry.

Melbourne is growing by nearly 2,000 people every week, so we need smart solutions to meet our city’s transport challenges. This is why the Liberal Nationals Coalition supports the tandem operation of both the taxi industry and Uber.

Daniel Andrews needs to either support the private members bill or introduce legislation legalising Uber next week.  The Liberal Nationals Coalition will support sensible legislation that legalises Uber and gives certainty to the taxi industry.

New services in the peer economy like Uber, Freelancer and Airbnb are a part of our economic future, purely and simply they mean more jobs for Victoria and choice for consumers. Victoria cannot afford any more dithering and time-wasting by Daniel Andrews.
