REPORTS that the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC) will now delay publication of the review into allegations of bullying and harassment in the fire services until at least next month means that no vote on the Fire Services legislation should occur until then, says parliamentary secretary to the Leader of the Opposition Tim Smith.
The United Firefighters Union (UFU) launched legal proceedings to delay the publication of this report.
The review was originally to be published in late June, then late August and now September.
All parliamentarians who are voting on the proposal to restructure Victoria’s fire services need to assess all information before making such an important decision.
If there is a significant cultural problem of bullying and harassment in the fire services then that needs to be fixed as part of any restructure.
Daniel Andrews repeatedly says he is committed to safe workplaces, now is his chance to demonstrate that claim by delaying the vote until this report on bullying and harassment in the fire services is made public.
