Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin
The problems identified in this review are of Daniel Andrews making.
At the last election the United Firefighters Union had 700 members working on 109 polling booths to get Daniel Andrews elected. To get their support Daniel Andrews made promises he should never have made.
Since the election, when the unions came to collect, Daniel Andrews has been at war with the UFU.
This has created a culture of conflict, hostility and bullying in Victoria’s fire services.
How can Victorians be confident that Daniel Andrews can fix the problem he created?
The merging of the fire services would be another blow to volunteers already treated by second-class citizens by the Andrews Government.
While the Minister has today promised the government will not merge the CFA and MFB, firefighters know all too well that Daniel Andrews has a habit of reneging on promises to them.
Concerning findings of the report indicate a culture of bullying and harassment plague the fire services, including the UFU. Daniel Andrews relied on the UFU’s culture of bullying and harassment to get elected. It is time he condemned such behaviour and ended his war on fire services.
