The Andrews Labor Government has failed Victorians with a botched implementation of its Firearm Prevention Orders, says Shadow Attorney General Edward O'Donohue.

Daniel Andrews and Lisa Neville promised the introduction would be a game changer, with assurances that up to 2000 FPOs could be issued.

Despite warnings there were significant flaws with Labor’s proposed bill, they refused to negotiate with the Liberal Nationals or cross bench members about fixing it.

Rather than being a game changer, the Inquiry into firearms prohibition legislation found the scheme was botched with the rollout of FPOs slow, the legislation failing at the first judicial test in the Websdale VCAT decision, and rather than being a game changer, crime in Victoria continues to grow.

So flawed is the legislation that the Committee, with the support of Government members, has this week recommended a full, open and consultative review of the regime take place in two years.
