The Liberal Nationals are calling on the Andrews Labor Government to divert its taxpayer funded political advertising campaign towards a much-needed public education campaign to reduce the confusion around COVID-19.
Labor continues to spend hundreds-of-thousands-of-dollars on print and broadcast advertising for public relations on its infrastructure projects that have blown out by more than $25 billion.
Labor should stop this political spin and use the money in an outdoor, broadcast and print campaign – reaching people in train stations, bus shelters and in papers to give Victorians the information they need during these uncertain times.
The campaign should include simple and clear messaging around:
- protective hygiene measures
- specific coronavirus symptoms
- the exact steps to take should anyone display any of these symptoms
- or if they have come into contact with anyone arriving from high risk countries.
The campaign should also include guidance for parents of children at schools, employers, employees and those who attend community events. The content and strategy of the campaign should be responsive to medical advice on the ongoing and evolving situation.
